History of Oasi Sorgente
The house has a long and rich history. It was built in the 1600s and served as a cow farm. It was built by the Cansacchi family which were a prominent family in the area at the time and had their palace in the nearby town of Montecampano.
Over the years, the house was passed down from generation to generation remaining a farm house. After this, it was used as a midwife clinic, providing essential care to the local community. We have met so many people that their own grandparents were born in our house or they knew someone who’s grandparents were born here!
The house was abandoned for about 50 years before the previous owners bought it in 1998. It was almost in ruins! They restored it in only 8 months and turned it into an agriturismo. They terraced the land and added many of the trees and greenery we see today! They also used it as a retreat center for their meditation and expansion of consciousness business.
There are rumors that the grotto on our property was an Etruscan tomb, built by an advanced pre-Roman society thousands of years ago. There are many such tombs in this area. Unfortunately, an earthquake quite some years ago caused much of it to collapse. But we are committed to uncovering what remains of this fascinating piece of history and making it accessible to our guests.
It is amazing to think of all the history that exists within the walls of our B&B and retreat center. We look forward to sharing it with you!
